Technical Talk “Flaws in Construction Workmanship” – 2024

ACE organized a technical talk on “Flaws in Construction Workmanship” for 3rd, 5th & 7th semester Civil Engineering students. Resource person Er.Shivaram M S, Structural Engineer and Member ACCE (I)) puttur centre, gave the presentation, which was scheduled on 27th September 2024. This Talk aims to provide valuable insight and inspiration to our students in lead to significant issues that compromise the integrity, safety, and longevity of structures. Common deficiencies include the use of poor-quality materials, which can result in structural failures, and inadequate surface preparation that affects adhesion and durability. Measurement errors often lead to misaligned components, while improper installation of essential systems, such as plumbing and electrical, can create safety hazards. Additionally, insufficient inspections throughout the construction process may allow minor defects to escalate into major problems. Failure to adhere to building codes can result in legal ramifications and unsafe conditions. Inconsistent workmanship among different workers can yield uneven finishes, while neglecting proper weatherproofing can cause energy inefficiencies and moisture-related damage. To mitigate these issues, it is crucial to emphasize training, implement rigorous quality control measures, and follow best practices in construction management. Addressing these flaws not only enhances the quality of the final product but also ensures the safety and satisfaction of the occupants. Civil department HOD and all the staff took part in this session. 68 numbers of students got benefited by this session.
